WALLY TENDER 48
Born from a partnership between Wally and Ferretti, the Wally Tender 48 is a highly innovative superyacht tender, with a character all of its own. Strikingly low and sleek, this restyled version of the original Wally Tender certainly catches the eye with its distinctive colour scheme. The Wally tender concept was originally developed as a stand-alone boat in its own right, ideal for overnight cruising, and not just as a support vessel for a larger yacht. The new 48 Tender takes this concept a step further with several new amenities and features. What remain the same, however, are the stylish solutions that defi ne the Wally approach of combining form with function – apparently applied to every detail of the lightweight composite construction. The most noticeable development is the larger interior volume that o ers more comfort and increased functionality. Wally claim that the main design challenge revolved around raising the freeboard without losing ‘the purity of the hull lines associated with all Wally yachts’. This freeboard increase was needed to provide a full and e ective cabin, and a real shower cubicle. Standout features developed from the 65-knot 36m 118 WallyPower are the folddown bulwark sections, which increase the size of the swim platform and cockpit, which is served by a retractable passerelle that doubles as a fi ve-step swim ladder. On deck, the layout has been designed to let family and friends relax in comfort by sinking into the generous seating and sunbeds or enjoying al fresco dining courtesy of a galley equipped with two cooking rings, a sink and two fridges (one below and one topside). While underway, the aft seating can be confi gured to face forward, and when at anchor, to face the dining table. The entire aft sunbed can be raised to access the engine compartment, or just the top section, which has storage space underneath. There is more storage under the forward sunbed, and even a locker for water toys, infl atables and scuba equipment in the unit behind the helm seating. In addition to the hardtop, both the foredeck and the aft deck can be protected from the sun by awnings supported by carbon-fi bre pillars, a feature introduced in the original 118 WallyPower. A special Besenzoni anchoring system, with an extending arm to simplify anchoring, is hidden behind a fl ush-fi tting vertical hatch in the bow. This super-neat feature really sums up the design ethos of the brand, becauseif you did not know it was there, you would think somebody had forgotten to give this boat an anchor. Naturally it is operated at the touch of a button. The pronounced trademark wrap-around fendering provides a tough but springy lip to hang fenders over. The standard propulsion package comprises twin Volvo 510hp IPS650 engines, providing a claimed top speed of 38 knots. An optional gyroscopic stabiliser can be housed in a separate technical compartment, along with the switches and circuit breakers. The fi rst boat, currently under construction at the Ferretti Group production site in Forlì, Italy, is due to be launched in June.
