sustainability report
Besenzoni S.p.A. began drafting its first Sustainability Report in 2022/23, a completely voluntary initiative, as the company is not required to adhere to the reporting obligations of Legislative Decree 254/2016. Following the initial report, Besenzoni has recently completed the Sustainability Report for 2023 as well, thereby strengthening its commitment to transparently communicating the company’s progress in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) matters.
The primary aim of these reports is to provide a clear and accessible overview of the company’s initiatives and achievements, highlighting its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in the 2030 Agenda. The Sustainability Report is designed to facilitate both internal and external communication, reinforcing relationships with stakeholders, who play a key role in Besenzoni’s success and growth.
Letter to the Stakeholders
Dear Stakeholders,
navigating the world of nautical components, we at Besenzoni look to the future with our compass pointed towards a horizon of responsibility. With this spirit, we present Besenzoni's second Sustainability Report, a demonstration of our continued dedication to pursuing ever greater responsibility in managing ESG impacts.
Since 2022, we have made social responsibility our guiding light, defining ambitious goals and taking concrete actions to achieve them, which I am proud to present in the following pages. We firmly believe that the nautical world must adopt all possible strategies to evolve in a more environmentally friendly way, contributing to the protection of the marine environment and the fight against climate change, ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy the beauty of the sea. For this reason, in 2023 we embarked on a path to obtain ISO 14001 certification: Environmental management system. The new environmental management policies of Besenzoni have already become an element of risk management and a fundamental criterion in the choice of our suppliers. We are aware that the use of low environmental impact materials and energy and the efficiency of product design are some of the key points in which we must continue to invest. In line with what my father Giovanni Besenzoni loved to say: "innovation is looking at the future, holding the past by the hand", not only do we continue to invest in new, more innovative projects, but we want new minds to propose new paths to us. This year, together with LABA, we promoted the ‘Giovanni Besenzoni Award’, a competition for young designers in the twoyear Industrial & Research Design program to create a catwalk. In a world that changes at breakneck speed, where technology evolves in the blink of an eye and customer needs change, it is youth that represents the innovative soul of companies.
Our success is the result of the balance between tradition and the spirit of innovation, the lifeblood of the company. At Besenzoni Nautica, although we are focused on the here and now, we have in our DNA the desire to always row further. We demonstrated our commitment to an increasingly significant presence in non-nautical fields also at the Milan Design Week 2023 with our installation FLOW: a staircase suspended in a mirrored shell. Furthermore, with the aim of consolidating a healthy Company for future generations, we drawun up the Ethical Code, which consolidates the ethical principles and values which we are based on, in order to guide the actions and interactions of all those involved with the Company. We navigate with the awareness that the values of ethics are an essential requirement for a route towards the future.
To close 2023 in the best possible way, we have expanded our business with a new operating division: Atelier, acquiring Tappezzeria Nautica Patelli, in order to offer increasingly tailor-made solutions for shipowners. At Besenzoni, we have always been committed to designing nautical accessories that are characterized by 100% Made in Italy components. Through the new Atelier division, we can focus even more on a more controlled and original supply chain. We are aware that our journey towards sustainability has just begun, but at Besenzoni we have a well-defined route and the wind in our sails. For us, sustainability is not a destination, but a continuous journey, a constant commitment that requires passion, dedication and the collaboration of all stakeholders.
We invite you to read our 2023 Sustainability Report, hoping that the passion and care for what we do emerges from its pages.
Giorgio Besenzoni
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSABILITY
an integral part of Besenzoni's DNA
Throughout its history Besenzoni has always been very careful in satisfying the customer's needs but at the same time in managing the expectations of other stakeholders, such as staff, suppliers and the local community of reference.
The belief that economic responsibility is also a social responsibility, which creates tangible and intangible values, for everything that revolves around the company, has always been placed in the foreground. Essential values for the company, for people, for the territory and for the environment.
For this reason, real synergies with local authorities and non-profit organizations have been consolidated over the years in order to create a closer link with the community.
WHP Network - Workplaces that Promote Health
In recent years, the WHP (Workplace Health Promotion) project coordinated by the managers of the area health office has been enthusiastically embraced: "it is based on the model promoted by the WHO and has the priority objective of promoting organizational changes in the workplace in order to to make them environments conducive to the conscious adoption and diffusion of healthy lifestyles, contributing to the prevention of chronic diseases. "
Its objective is to fight against the incorrect practices that can impact health negatively, such as smoking, drinking alcohol, addictions, or a sedentary lifestyle.
Besenzoni is happy to announce that the WHP program certification has been awarded to us for the year 2023 as well.
SUCCESSFUL ACTIVITIES
The concept of Health Promotion in occupational contexts presupposes that a company not only implements all measures to prevent accidents and occupational diseases but also undertakes to offer its workers opportunities to improve their health, reducing general and overall risk factors. particularly those most implicated in the genesis of chronic diseases.
Workplaces that promote health, for example, encourage and promote physical activity, offer opportunities to quit smoking, promote healthy eating, implement measures to improve well-being at work and beyond work.
We have therefore activated good practices in the various proposed areas and in particular organized or participated in soccer and volleyball tournaments to stimulate constant physical activity.
ONGOING COLLABORATIONS
In addition to the activities promoted internally by the Besenzoni company, it efficiently and effectively supports some voluntary organizations and sports associations operating in the area:
SPECIAL PARTNERSHIPS
Another collaboration that thrilled Besenzoni was that which allowed him to make his technical and artisan skills (and a lot of imagination!) available to create equipment that would allow children with disabilities to ski. Both the makers of the equipment and the kids from the ski club enjoyed it! It was a real joy to see those guys on the snow in the mountains having fun and finally free to appreciate the emotions of a ski descent
