All began in 1967 in Paratico, in the far north, on the border between the provinces of Bergamo and Brescia. Giovanni Besenzoni founded a small artisan company, which specializes in the production of nautical components. On the occasion of its fifty-fifth anniversary, the Bergamo-based company opened the doors of the Sarnico factory.
FAMILY TRADITION
We begin with the contract manufacturing of windshields for boats from the lake and then from the sea.
Today, after 55 years, Giorgio Besenzoni, Giovanni's son, presented the latest jewel of the Lombard company: IlTenderLift, a stern bridge for winging and launching the tender without any effort. In between there are 55 years of history and accessories sold to customers in 90 countries, which make Besenzoni an ambassador of Made in Italy in the world.
The sales network guarantees an international presence in 59 countries with 187 representative points and promotes the seven collections, which to date include over 170 products, at the service of the owner and his guests. Accessories now in common use, on any boat or superyacht, have seen their genesis in the Paratico plant: from design to prototype.
AN INNOVATION TO BE AWARDED
In 1973, for example, Besenzoni presented a technological revolution for those years: the stern platform with ladder.
The nautical sector is still amazed in 1985, the year in which the innovative hydraulic gangway with remote control makes its debut, while in 1993 the retractable side door becomes an "Innovative Product", recognized by the National Museum of Science and Technology "Leonardo Da Vinci" from Milan. The story continues in 2002, with the super compact Magic crane, which wins the “Dame Award” at the Mets in Amsterdam. The nautical market is becoming richer and more complex, ranging from boats to pleasure boats.
Therefore, in 2005 three new divisions were born: Besenzoni Super Yacht Division, Besenzoni Titanium Division and Besenzoni Customer Service Division, to better follow each sector. The company continues to be recognized, which in the meantime is launching new collaborations with the Engineering Faculty of the University of Bergamo - to improve the design.
In 2017 Besenzoni was again awarded in Amsterdam for the P400 Matrix pilot seat and the following year officially presented the UNICA - Unique Yachts Accessories division at the Monaco Yacht Show.
Until 2021, when the new BeElectric division is born.
Today Besenzoni also caters to military ships, for which he designed from the Dronedecks, a platform for the take-off and landing of drones that folds in on itself, up to the bridge seats, the cranes and the side platforms to observe the mooring.
FROM WINDSHIELD TO ELECTRIC
"From the lighting of my father, who began producing windshields for third parties for lake boats, to today - says Giovanni Besenzoni - there has been an escalation in the creation of accessories such as windshields, chair supports, table supports and pilot seats.
My father had the idea of innovating the stern of boats, designing the first fixed platform with the swim ladder. At the time it was a real novelty. From then on it was an ascent, always made up of small and big innovations at an artisan level, up to the first hydraulic gangway, which also served as a ladder and crane, controlled by infrared systems “. A turning point that opened a new gap in the production of accessories at the service of owners, to improve and make life on the boat more comfortable. Thanks to hydraulics, in fact, hatches, cranes, balconies and roofs were produced, which Besenzoni continues to innovate today, up to the production of electrical components.
RELIABLE BUT HIDDEN
Design plays a fundamental role in the creation of nautical accessories, second only to reliability. Yet Besenzoni's mission is to serve the owner, offering the solution for his boat, but leaving the boat the leading role. n many technical data sheets, in fact, the term “retractable” can be read. But why hide design objects, which boast Italian taste and excellence?
“Our goal - replies Giorgio Besenzoni - has always been to make sure that our products are retractable, so as not to be visible externally. Those who buy a boat look at it and appreciate it for its lines, not to see an accessory attached.
We have an intense relationship with the technical design offices of the construction sites, with the designers and with the final customer. A personal relationship as well as through our worldwide assistance service. Many shipowners have ideas and come to propose them, many come from our internal staff “. Giorgio Besenzoni told us this and more in the interview that you can watch here.
Among the many Besenzoni designer proposals, there is the Diffuser: a turret (which can be retractable) to be used on the boat, at home or in the office. Thanks to an App, you can activate it to spread your favorite fragrance in time for arrival on board. Walkways and stairs can also be managed with an application.
Besenzoni solutions must be minimally invasive from a design point of view, but also for the environment which, being salt water, however, requires the use of special materials. This is another challenge for the Bergamo-based company. "We try to find products, components and materials - explains the CEO - suitable for the marine environment, rich in salt. The electric TenderLift, for example, is made with different materials, which are not afraid of always being immersed in salt water “.
ILTENDERLIFT
To celebrate its 55th birthday, Besenzoni welcomed the international nautical press to Sarnico. A meeting to make up for the lack of participation in the Mets in Amsterdam, halved by the pandemic, and to present the electrically operated "IlTenderLift", the latest product in the BeElectric series. The new range of electrically operated components, born in December 2020, already sees LaPassarella, LaScala and IlSalpAncora in production. It is completed with IlTenderLift, dedicated to the operations necessary for hauling and launching tenders and jet skis, which can be carried out by a single crew member, without disturbing the owner. The TenderLift in its first proposal has a capacity of 850 kg, including the weight of the platform. Versions capable of lifting from 400 to 1,200 kg will also arrive in the future, as well as fully customizable solutions. The power supply is electric and, as for the other accessories in the range, it has advantages both for the boats on which it is mounted and for the environment. The absence of the hydraulic unit and oil makes the systems quieter and the boats lighter. The weight reduction leads to a number of savings in installation and maintenance costs, as well as in fuel. The use of these mechanisms on board, perhaps at anchor, requires less energy, because there is no need for the hydraulic power of the engine. The energy itself is optimized, starting from the electronic control of the effort with less current, to avoid excessive stress on the system and the structure; everything works at 24V.
A GREEN SOUL
“Alongside traditional production, which still remains our core business - continues Giorgio Besenzoni - we are enthusiastically tackling important steps towards the design and construction of increasingly environmentally friendly products, because we believe that the issue of sustainability has become essential.
For many years our intent to act in a socially responsible way has not only turned to the production of new items, but also to business processes ". From the drastic reduction in the use of paper in offices, to the choice of completely rethinking packaging materials, replaced with more eco-friendly alternatives.
“We have updated and replaced machinery - adds Besenzoni - with new less impactful solutions: we use, for example, a new water cutting system that does not use mineral oil but electric pumps, to avoid pollution and dispersions“.
The Sarnico plant aims to increasingly reduce its environmental impact. Among the many projects, there is also the one for a more efficient management of the heating of work environments, thanks to the study of a geothermal well. Together with the Lombardy Region, Besenzoni has also started the project to create a heat exchanger that exploits the heat produced by the oven used in painting, recovering it to heat the various departments.
